Murgese Construction site app: privacy
Last changed 3 October 2026. Applies to the site app for iPhone and Android, version 1.4.0 and later.
In short
The site app works with your firm's own copy of Murgese Construction, on your office PC. What you write in the app goes to that PC and nowhere else. We, the publisher of the app, receive none of it, and the app has no advertising and no tracking.
Who is responsible for your data
Your employer, or the firm you work for, runs Murgese Construction on its own computer and decides how what you send it is used and kept. It is the data controller, including for the names, signatures and incident details of other people that you record in the app. Ask it first about anything you send from the app. We do not run a server the app sends your work to.
The app is published by Murgese Ltd, registered in England and Wales with company number 13464940, registered office C/O Nexus Accounting Services Ltd, 7 Joshua Close, Coventry, England, CV4 9DB, and registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under number ZC230438.
What the app handles, and why
- What you write on site: diary entries (labour, plant, weather, deliveries, visitors, delays, notes), snags, questions to the design team (RFIs), inspections and what they found, things seen on site that need putting right, actions marked done, expense receipts and journeys. Kept on the phone until they reach your office PC, then removed from the phone.
- Incident reports: the first report of an accident, a near miss or damage, made at the scene. Where someone is hurt or taken ill, it includes their name, whether they work on the job or are a member of the public, their employer, what the injury or illness is, and whether they went to hospital or are off work. That is information about someone's health, which the law treats with extra care: it goes only to your office PC, where your firm needs it to look after the person and to decide whether the accident has to be reported to the Health and Safety Executive.
- Signatures: when people sign on the phone for a site briefing, a toolbox talk or a permit to work, the app records each person's name, their company and their signature as drawn with a finger, with the date and time. They go to your office PC as the record that the briefing was given or the permit accepted.
- Photographs you take in the app: of the site, snags, questions, inspections, things seen on site, incidents and receipts. Made smaller on the phone and sent to your office PC with what they belong to.
- Where the phone is, only while the app is open: to suggest the job you are standing on, to note whether an entry was made on site, and to set a job's site when you press This is the site. The app never tracks you in the background and keeps no history of where you have been.
- Drawings of your jobs, fetched from your office PC and kept on the phone so they can be read with no signal.
- Your name and the phone's name, given by your office when the phone joins, so your office knows who wrote what.
Where it goes
Only to your firm's office PC, over an encrypted connection that the app checks against your office's own certificate, so it cannot be read on the way or sent to a look-alike. Where your firm uses Tailscale, the connection runs through it to the same PC.
Google's code scanner
The app scans the code on the office PC with Google's ML Kit. Google's ML Kit sends Google diagnostic information (the phone's model and system version, the app's version, how quickly the scanner ran) with an identifier for the installation that is not meant to identify you or the phone. It does not send the picture from the camera. Google describes this at developers.google.com/ml-kit/terms.
Looking around the sample
The app has a sample company to try it without an office. Nothing written in the sample leaves the phone, and leaving the sample deletes it.
Keeping and deleting
Your office PC keeps what you send for as long as your firm keeps its records; ask your firm to correct or delete it. On the phone, leaving your office (the cog, Leave this office) deletes everything the app kept there, including drawings and anything not yet sent. Removing the app does the same.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask the firm that holds your data for a copy of it, to correct it, or to delete it. This includes anyone whose name, signature or injury was recorded in the app by somebody else. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
The app is a work tool for people employed on construction sites and is not meant for children.
Changes
If the app starts handling anything new, this page changes before the app does, and the date at the top changes with it.
Questions about the app itself: privacy@murgese.co.uk. For anything you have sent from the app, ask the firm you sent it to: we cannot see it.
